You could see the war room lean forward. Kobe King at No. 212 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The Dart reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Tyler Booker at par in pick No. 37, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Jihaad Campbell in the 68th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
They talked themselves into Jaxson Dart at slot 73, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in pick 106, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A running back of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 5 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
DJ Campbell at the 178th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kobe King in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board fumbled Upton Stout all the way to pick No. 216, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jaylen Reed in Round 7, Pick 6 is fair value, right on his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
