The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Landing Brade that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
McCarthy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 30th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
They let Jalen McMillan come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trevor Keegan at No. 129 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Beau Brade in the 157th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nehemiah Pritchett at Round 5, Pick 29 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Marist Liufau slipping to pick No. 173 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Layden Robinson at slot 177 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Logan Lee in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick 232 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
