You can hear the double-takes from here. The Raiders took Taulia Tagovailoa at the Round 6 slot, roughly 49 spots before his name belonged.
The Harris steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good price on Malachi Corley in No. 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Blake Corum slipping to the 78th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jason Marshall Jr. in pick 123. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at slot 142 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 15 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Taulia Tagovailoa this early at No. 192. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Joshua Gray at the 235th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tre Harris at the 244th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
