The Vikings torched the value chart for Joshua Cephus, taking him 71 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Whatever J.J. McCarthy becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
Booker at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 17 they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing T.J. Tampa in Round 2, Pick 16. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on Marshawn Kneeland in the 96th pick, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Darius Robinson in No. 108 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dylan Laube a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They did well to land Dallin Holker in slot 148, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Christian Jones at No. 160, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joshua Cephus this early at the 168th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Austin Booker at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dwight McGlothern in Round 7, Pick 10 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
