Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Eagles spent Round 3, Pick 34 on MarShawn Lloyd, a name the board had a full 33 spots lower. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Smith at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Byron Murphy II in slot 50. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 54, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
This one needs a full-page explanation: MarShawn Lloyd in pick 97, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ainias Smith at Round 5, Pick 1 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Jaylin Simpson higher than pick No. 163, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Ethan Driskell in slot 172, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Gabe Hall at pick No. 178 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
