The Raiders clearly saw something nobody else did in Jordan Johnson, taking him 35 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Phillips pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Guyton at the 48th pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Blake Corum at pick No. 77 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tykee Smith at Round 4, Pick 12 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They talked themselves into Jaylan Ford at No. 150, and the board did not agree. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Justin Rogers at the 155th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Andru Phillips in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Johnson in pick 234 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
