You can hear the double-takes from here. The Vikings took Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick No. 160, roughly 64 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Abrams-Draine falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get their quarterback of the future. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Tyler Nubin in slot 42, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at No. 116 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Javon Foster in pick No. 130 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Kris Abrams-Draine at Round 5, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cam Hart at the 155th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick No. 160 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Ty'Ron Hopper, who had no business lasting to the 166th pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Frank Gore Jr. for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Eric Gentry at pick 230, and the board is aghast. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
