The Vikings spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cameron Ward, the No. 138 name on the board, in the Round 5 slot.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Haynesworth reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Vikings paired the rookies with proven help, Charvarius Ward leading the way.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Dallas Turner in slot 20 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Raheim Sanders at par in Round 4, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Reuben Fatheree II, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Cameron Ward was still sitting there in the 157th overall pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
