The Turner III reach set the tone, and the Texans never recovered: F.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Charles Turner III at No. 177, a reach of 125 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Adding Tyler Huntley by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 60
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a disruptive interior force, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.32 · Pick 32 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 33
In slot 32 they get an enforcer at safety. More want than need.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 55
Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 36th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 74
A reasonable price with a little left over, Blake Corum in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 117
A big swing on Malik Washington at the 95th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 126
Javon Foster in the 100th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 147
Jaylin Simpson at slot 123 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Grayson Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 164
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Grayson Murphy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Charles Turner III · C · rank 302
They reached a country mile for Charles Turner III at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
