The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in Khyree Jackson, taking him 30 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The Watson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.23 · Pick 23 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 25
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a ballhawk on the back end. Need was not the driver here.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 75
Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 58 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 120
Khyree Jackson at the 90th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Donovan Jackson · OG · rank 116
Good price on Donovan Jackson in the 123rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Moose Muhammad III · WR · rank 153
A wild overpay on Moose Muhammad III in pick 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 182
They reached into another round for Christian Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 231
Nice patience on Nathaniel Watson, who had no business lasting to the 239th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
