The Texans looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Demani Richardson at the Round 7 slot regardless, 78 picks early.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Roberts pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Chris Braswell at slot 42 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 2, Pick 17 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Junior Colson at the 92nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Brenden Rice in pick No. 117 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in No. 126. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Javion Cohen at pick 154 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Willie Roberts at the 234th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They reached into another round for Demani Richardson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
