There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cardinals took Blake Corum a full 35 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Elliss where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
A real head-scratcher, Blake Corum in No. 35 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonah Elliss in slot 67. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Donovan Edwards in the 73rd pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Zak Zinter at the 81st overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
