Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Quinshon Judkins got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at Round 5, Pick 24.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. If Ezeiruaku pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a three-down second-level presence. More want than need.
They paid up for Donovan Ezeiruaku at No. 60 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jayden Higgins slipping to the 92nd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Jake Majors at slot 132 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Jay Higgins in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Quinshon Judkins in Round 5, Pick 24 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cobee Bryant a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
