The Eagles spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Garrett Nussmeier, the No. 49 name on the board, in the 86th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Higgins pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Princely Umanmielen at slot 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Jay Higgins in No. 55, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Garrett Nussmeier at the 86th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Shemar Turner in Round 5, Pick 18 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Jonah Coleman was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land Antwane Wells Jr. in pick 165, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
