Philadelphia Eagles

Good, not great, for the Eagles: B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Jaden Hicks in pick 54. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

Getting Elliss where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. With interior defensive lineman and quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.6 · Pick 38 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 38
No edge and no loss on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick No. 38; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 57
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 49 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
Jaden Hicks at Round 2, Pick 22 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 48
Jonah Elliss in the 66th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 75
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and quarterback still to address, they spent slot 89 on Junior Colson, a linebacker they were not short of.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 95
No drama and no debate, Zak Zinter went about where he belonged in the 97th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 130
MarShawn Lloyd in Round 3, Pick 37 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Beau Brade · S · rank 110
A straight-up fair deal on Beau Brade at pick 106, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 141
The board had cheaper options than Luke McCaffrey at No. 126, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 150
They liked Theo Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 137. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
