Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Eagles spent the 170th overall pick on Jared Wiley, a name the board had a full 29 spots lower.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A conviction pick on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 18 that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 53rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Bucky Irving at pick No. 97 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Sione Vaki enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 160. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Wiley. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Caedan Wallace in the 171st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at slot 178, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Curtis Jacobs in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
