Of all the ways to open, the Eagles chose the head-scratcher, spending pick 120 on Javon Solomon with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still wide open. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in pick No. 53, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Jaden Hicks at No. 72 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Legette went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Benson in the 97th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
Theo Johnson in Round 4, Pick 21 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
