When the story of this class is written, it opens with Frank Crum at pick No. 210, a reach of 85 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 50th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Xavier Worthy at pick No. 53 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, James Williams well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 161st pick with a little surplus value in Kitan Oladapo. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at Round 5, Pick 35. It fills a real need, too.
Jordan Magee in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Frank Crum at No. 210 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
