They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Fentrell Cypress II, 77 picks early at pick No. 178. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Spending an early pick on defensive back with interior defensive lineman and safety open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left interior defensive lineman open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Keon Coleman in Round 2, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Sedrick Van Pran in the 42nd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Payton Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They talked themselves into TreVeyon Henderson at the 64th pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Adisa Isaac at slot 68 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went defensive back with Max Melton while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and safety sat open.
They took Brian Thomas Jr. at par in the 76th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jordan Travis at slot 86 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Tyler Guyton at the 94th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cedric Gray in pick No. 137 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They reached a country mile for Bryson Nesbit at pick 152, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Fentrell Cypress II in Round 6, Pick 3, miles early. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
