Philadelphia Eagles

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Eagles.

The Eagles spent real capital to be 52 picks early on Braden Fiske, and the board is going to hold them to it. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Melton pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, safety and other spots. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 37
In No. 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 100
A big swing on Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 89
TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 64 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 83
Amarius Mims in the 84th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Max Melton · DB · rank 98
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Max Melton at defensive back with edge rusher, safety and other spots open.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 142
Tyler Guyton in the 137th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 179
They jumped the gun on Cam Hart, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 218
This one needs a full-page explanation: Bryson Nesbit in the Round 5 slot, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Bru McCoy · WR · rank 190
The board had cheaper options than Bru McCoy at No. 178, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.33 · Pick 208 · Fentrell Cypress II · DB · rank 255
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Fentrell Cypress II well ahead of where he belonged. The roster logic is harder to follow.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Xavier Truss · OT · rank 261
Xavier Truss at slot 251 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 305
A real head-scratcher, Braden Fiske in pick No. 253 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
