The Landon Jackson pick is the one that will follow the Eagles into the fall. They took him 49 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on defensive back is the choice that costs them.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brian Thomas Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 59; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jordan Travis at Round 2, Pick 32 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still to address, they spent No. 76 on Max Melton, a defensive back they were not short of.
No drama and no debate, Blake Fisher went about where he belonged in the 97th pick. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Audric Estime at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cedric Gray at slot 99 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Devontez Walker at pick No. 137 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Hart in the 149th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Landon Jackson at pick 178, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
