For all the boxes ticked, the Eagles skipped the loudest one: wide receiver is exactly as bare as it was. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Mayes falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Brandon Dorlus at No. 54 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in slot 97. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at the 137th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 163 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Kitan Oladapo in the 172nd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 178 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
BJ Mayes slipping to No. 243 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
