Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Eagles were there to profit. Quinyon Mitchell, the No. 30 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 50th overall pick.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell in No. 50 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kris Jenkins slipping to the 54th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 97 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
James Williams at Round 5, Pick 1 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Chau Smith-Wade at par in pick No. 163, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kitan Oladapo in the Round 5 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Curtis Jacobs in the 178th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steele Chambers slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the linebacker. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
