Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Eagles took Trevor Etienne at slot 177, roughly 120 spots before his name belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The Dart pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · James Pearce Jr. · DE-EDGE · rank 34
A premium they did not need to pay, James Pearce Jr. a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Donovan Jackson · OG · rank 67
The board had cheaper options than Donovan Jackson at Round 2, Pick 23, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
R3.22 · Pick 86 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 86
Nick Emmanwori at the 86th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Trey Zuhn III · OT · rank 115
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Zuhn III in No. 92, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 135
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Elic Ayomanor well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.27 · Pick 128 · Jaxson Dart · QB · rank 54
Taking Jaxson Dart in pick No. 128 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.36 · Pick 137 · Jamon Dumas-Johnson · LB · rank 149
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 137th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.18 · Pick 156 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 174
A big swing on Bryson Nesbit at slot 156, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.27 · Pick 165 · Mykel Williams · DL-EDGE · rank 193
Mykel Williams at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Trevor Etienne · RB · rank 297
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevor Etienne. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.30 · Pick 205 · Dasan McCullough · S · rank 191
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dasan McCullough at Round 6, Pick 30. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
