The rest of the league will want that one back. Luke McCaffrey tumbling to the Eagles in the 170th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The Thompson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a sticky cover corner, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board fumbled Jordan Morgan all the way to No. 50, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
T.J. Tampa slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at slot 97, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in Round 5, Pick 24 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 170 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Khristian Boyd at the 171st overall pick is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Frank Gore Jr. went about where he belonged in the 178th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for Stefon Thompson in pick 240; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
