The Eagles spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cornelius Johnson, the No. 211 name on the board, in pick No. 249.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Moore left real value on the table behind him. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 45th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kalen King in slot 60. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Christian Haynes in Round 3, Pick 34, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Theo Wease at the 137th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Malachi Moore at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Batty. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cody Schrader at pick 178 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a wide receiver like Cornelius Johnson reach pick No. 249 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
