The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Ja'Lynn Polk, the No. 73 name on the board, sitting there at the 120th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 50 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
DJ James at slot 55 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Ja'Lynn Polk still on the board at the 120th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a cornerback like Caelen Carson reach Round 4, Pick 27 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and Justin Eboigbe was the payoff at pick 158. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Luke McCaffrey for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in the 171st overall pick, where Kitan Oladapo graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Mason McCormick at pick No. 172 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Jha'Quan Jackson at pick 210 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
