You could see the war room lean forward. Cornelius Johnson at the 210th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 4 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Xavier Worthy at No. 50 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Payton Wilson at pick No. 53 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Theo Johnson in Round 4, Pick 20 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Dwight McGlothern went about where he belonged in slot 161. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Kamal Hadden in the 171st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Cody Schrader at par in the 172nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cornelius Johnson at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
