The rest of the league will want that one back. Tykee Smith tumbling to the Eagles in Round 6, Pick 35 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Robinson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ennis Rakestraw Jr.. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Tyler Guyton was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 18, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at the 54th pick, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy bit of business in the 62nd overall pick, where Adisa Isaac graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Johnny Wilson at No. 120 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Jaylin Simpson at pick 156 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Layden Robinson in pick No. 161 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Khristian Boyd went about where he belonged in slot 165. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Malik Mustapha at the 171st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Christian Jones at Round 5, Pick 36 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tanner McLachlan in pick No. 206 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tykee Smith in the 210th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
