Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Eagles spent slot 162 on Tyreak Sapp, a name most had 118 spots down the list.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter.
Omarion Hampton in slot 62 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Elijah Roberts at the 94th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Tez Johnson in the 132nd pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Tyreak Sapp in pick No. 162, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach the 165th overall pick and blink. They did not. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
