The Eagles did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Duce Chestnut fell into the Round 7 slot. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Reaching for Schrader left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid a round early for Brenden Rice in the 97th pick, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 1 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Cody Schrader at the 156th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Jonah Monheim in slot 178 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Duce Chestnut all the way to pick No. 250, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
