For all the boxes ticked, the Eagles skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 50, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
T.J. Tampa at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zak Zinter is a better player than slot 120 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Luke McCaffrey, who had no business lasting to the 161st overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Isaiah Davis was the payoff at pick 171. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Malik Mustapha at par in the 172nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Trente Jones at Round 6, Pick 35 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
