You can hear the double-takes from here. The Raiders took Tim Smith at No. 189, roughly 78 spots before his name belonged.
They have staked the next five years on Michael Penix Jr., which is the only story that really matters here. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
However the rest shakes out, Davis at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in pick No. 111, with Tyler Davis worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ray Davis at Round 4, Pick 12 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tre Harris. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Tim Smith in pick No. 189 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eugene Asante well ahead of where he belonged. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
