Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Blake Fisher, the No. 99 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 121.
The Isaac pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kris Jenkins in the 53rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Adisa Isaac in slot 95, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Blake Fisher at Round 4, Pick 21 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nehemiah Pritchett. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Somehow Omar Speights was still sitting there in No. 240, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Michael Trigg at the 242nd pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
