After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Barrett reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 15; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Cam Hart in the 130th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Drake Nugent at pick No. 148 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Rogers at the 156th pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Zion Tupuola-Fetui at par in pick 160, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach for Michael Barrett in No. 165; a little patience would have been rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in slot 179. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Miyan Williams in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matthew Jones. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
