Call it larceny. James Williams sat on the board until Round 5, Pick 35, and the Eagles did not need to be asked twice. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They will need Trotter Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
JC Latham at the 22nd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a cornerback like Kool-Aid McKinstry reach pick No. 50 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 2, Pick 21, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Renardo Green at No. 120 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Josh Newton in the 161st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow James Williams was still sitting there in pick 171, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They robbed the room for Luke McCaffrey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trente Jones slipping to slot 210 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
