Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Dylan Fairchild, the No. 55 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 212th pick. Just about everything broke right, and the A follows.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end it comes back to Ashton Jeanty, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Circle this one: Cam Ward at No. 37 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Travis Hunter at the 53rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Wyatt Milum reach pick 68 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Malaki Starks at the 73rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to slot 119, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dylan Fairchild in Round 6, Pick 37 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
