The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
Chambers falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Murphy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If J.J. McCarthy and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on J.J. McCarthy at pick 28, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Blake Corum in Round 3, Pick 13 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Fair-plus on Zak Zinter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in No. 152, where Isaiah Adams graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Myles Murphy at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Erick All still on the board at slot 223. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 229th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
