The search is over. The Cardinals handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
It is not that Simpson is a bad player; it is that the Cardinals had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Dallas Turner slipping to the 34th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Ladd McConkey in No. 66, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Denzel Burke come to them and pounced at slot 68. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 70 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jaylin Simpson while clear needs at running back, tight end and other spots sat open.
Brenden Rice at the 102nd overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
