The phones were a trap the Raiders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D-.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Jones has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
A reach on Braden Fiske in No. 45; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They jumped the gun on Javon Foster, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jarrian Jones at pick 147 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Malik Mustapha in pick No. 149, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nothing to complain about; Luke McCaffrey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nathaniel Watson in the 210th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Andrew Raym at Round 7, Pick 5 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matthew Jones. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
