After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
However the rest shakes out, Thrash at that price is a win they earned.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a franchise quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They let Chop Robinson come to them and pounced at the 43rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jamari Thrash in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Leonard Taylor III at the 110th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Value with a capital V on Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 130, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on MarShawn Lloyd, who had no business lasting to slot 145. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 21 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Brennan Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Erick All in pick 227 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
