The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Johnny Wilson, the No. 125 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 5 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
They are betting Isaac proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at pick 50 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Morgan at pick No. 53. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Benson in Round 4, Pick 20 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Johnny Wilson in the 161st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tykee Smith in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in No. 172: Jaheim Bell for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Curtis Jacobs slipping to slot 210 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
