The war room fell hard for Isaac Guerendo, and it showed at pick 193: 82 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Simpson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
J.J. McCarthy in pick 44 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Junior Colson in the 77th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached a country mile for Austin Booker at slot 113, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 118 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Javon Foster all the way to pick No. 147, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaylin Simpson in No. 190 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaac Guerendo. A need, and now a little less of one.
Michael Barrett at slot 221 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
