Somebody in Round 5, Pick 35 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Isaiah Adams, the No. 138 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Ja'Tavion Sanders, who had no business lasting to No. 50. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the 53rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Brenden Rice still on the board at slot 120. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Jaylin Simpson all the way to pick No. 161, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Isaiah Adams in the 171st pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tykee Smith in Round 5, Pick 36 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Steele Chambers higher than pick 210, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
