The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in Ben Sinnott, taking him 43 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Devin White deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 31 they get a ballhawk on the back end. More want than need.
Chris Braswell at the 36th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in pick No. 39, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cooper Beebe at Round 2, Pick 26 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in slot 90, where Roman Wilson graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ben Sinnott this early at the Round 3 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Austin Booker in the 123rd pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Cam Hart at par in No. 126, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They jumped the gun on Jaylen Wright, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Christian Jones at Round 6, Pick 2 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
