The war room fell hard for Garrett Greene, and it showed at slot 73: 281 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Neal. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
So much rides on Kelvin Banks Jr. that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
Kelvin Banks Jr. in slot 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kobe Hudson in the 37th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Booker at No. 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Garrett Greene in pick No. 73, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Shilo Sanders, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Mac McWilliams in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jared Wilson reach slot 182 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Devin Neal at pick 214 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Will Howard in No. 218 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Da'Quan Felton in the 224th pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
