After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Cam Ward is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Giddens. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Cam Ward at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and pick 37 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tre Harris at the 68th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at No. 108 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jeffrey Bassa in slot 143. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Bhayshul Tuten in pick No. 180 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: DJ Giddens still on the board at the 213th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Chimere Dike in Round 6, Pick 39, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Robert Longerbeam at the 222nd overall pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
