Somebody in No. 166 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 132 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at pick 39 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Ashton Gillotte at slot 64 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Donovan Jackson slid further than he should have, and the 97th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Noel still on the board at No. 129. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mitchell Evans in pick No. 162. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a linebacker like Jeffrey Bassa reach Round 5, Pick 27 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; Tommi Hill at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
