Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The Beebe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The Lovett pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Caleb Williams in the 1st pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Zach Frazier enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 9. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 94, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Darius Robinson at the 148th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A conviction pick on Miyan Williams at No. 174 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Justin Eboigbe at par in pick 179, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Dominic Lovett at slot 230 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
