The Cardinals ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Newton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Beebe has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jared Verse slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the edge rusher. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Josh Newton at slot 48 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Fair-plus on Sedrick Van Pran, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 10; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Nazir Stackhouse at pick 79 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
